Kansas City Comes Out Strong, Bucks Denver Broncos

Posted on by

Throughout the first half of the season, there has been one surprise in the NFL that has been larger than that of any other: the greatness that has been Kansas City. The Kansas City Chiefs are sitting atop the AFC West by a handful of games and they recently broke a minor two-game slide with a stand-out win over the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football. The reason? Defense, baby.

When the Kansas City Chiefs took the field on Monday Night they faced, perhaps, their toughest test of the season. Kansas City faced their first taste of adversity after losing a pair of games. The Chiefs were taking on a Denver team that has one of the most dominant defenses in all of football. QB Alex Smith is having a career year but the continued assumption that he is nothing more than a check-down game manager meant that Smith was going to be under fire throughout this game. While all of the prior offense-oriented critiques permeated the headlines, it was Kansas City’s defense that stepped up to the plate in the 29 – 19 win and leading the way was veteran Justin Houston.

Justin Houston has been in the NFL for a long time, seven years, in fact, so he knew that he had to stand up and lead in the room. Houston said, “I’m from a big family, so I understand there are times to follow, and there are times to lead.” Houston gave a rallying pre-game speech that helped to fire up the Chief’s locker room and the rest would be history. The Chiefs would have a defensive touchdown in the game that would go on to punctuate the effectiveness of QB Alex Smith and the Kansas City offense. Now, the Chiefs have to keep stringing those wins together.

Roger Daltrey To Perform Live This Summer

Posted on by

Roger Daltrey of the Who has announced his intention to perform the Who’s rock opera “Tommy” live this summer. According to Daltrey, he will perform the opera as a solo act. However, Daltrey will commission the services of several orchestras for accompaniment. So far, the tour is slated to stop in ten different cities. Daltrey will perform with a different orchestra at each stop of the tour. Reportedly, Daltrey is excited to perform with some of the finest orchestras in the continental United States.

After his many achievements with the Who, Roger Daltrey has become a true rock legend. Still, I feel that this artist deserves greater recognition for the depths of his craft. Even though Pete Townshend wrote most of the music for the Who, it is unlikely this band could have succeeded without Daltrey on vocals. After all, Daltrey is known as one of the most expressive and imaginative singers in modern musical history.

Because there are millions of fans of the Who throughout this nation, I have no doubt that Roger Daltrey will have an easy time selling out these shows. I certainly hope that this tour will be commercially successful. If it does prove successful, you can be sure that Daltrey will schedule another tour next year. For years, people have perpetuated the stereotype that rock music is a young man’s game. While there may be some truth to this stereotype, you could also argue that this is an unfortunate generalization. Older singers like Roger Daltrey have a whole lot to offer the world. As a society, we should be more willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. After all, older people can really entertain the crowds at weekend concerts.

The Classic Version of Harley Quinn Returns to Comic Books

Posted on by

Batman comics simultaneously move forward while also taking a retro path. In White Knight comics, the original version of Harley Quinn returns. Those who aren’t too thrilled with the cinematic Suicide Squad look of the villain will be thrilled to see her back in her original form. The original Harley Quinn dressed in a Jester suit, which worked fine in the 1990’s. The modern upgrade to the look of the character seemed like a logical move. Batman even went through a number of costume and style changes over the years.

The return of the classic version of Harley Quinn in the White Knight books comes off as ironic as a completely new version of The Joker takes the lead in the comic. The new comic series tells the tale of a cured Joker who reverts back to his previously unknown pre-Clown Price of Crime Persona of Jack Napier.

Comic book fans weren’t originally thrilled with the idea of a comic storyline revealing the mysterious backstory of The Joker. Unlike the various other Batman villains, The Joker’s origin was shrouded in mystery for decades upon decades. The legendary possible origin story, The Killing Joke, isn’t an official part of the Batman mythos. It is a possible origin from an alternate timeline. And that is how DC Comics found a way out. White Knight takes place in an alternate timeline. Alternative timelines, however, can be merged with real timelines through a simple Crisis on Infinite Earths or New 52 epic event.

The creative teams behind the various Batman comic books on the market these days definitely are doing something right. Batman book sales have proven to be solid with titles selling more than 100,000 copies per month. Such figures remain impressive considering how weak overall comic book sales have been in 2017.

Ellen DeGeneres Brings Karla Kardashian Back For The Holiday

Posted on by

Leave it to Ellen DeGeneres to bring laughter to the Halloween season. She has resurrected her ‘Karla Kardashian’ costume on her talk show. Karla is another sister that Ellen made up to spoof the Kardashian family. She’s about ten months pregnant. ‘Karla,’ told the audience that either she was pregnant, or her butt pads were on backwards. Her lady lumps were quite large and brought much laughter to the audience.

Kim is expecting her third child with her husband, Kayne West. The recent baby boom has given DeGeneres much material to work with. Khloe is expecting her first child with her boy friend, Tristan Thompson. If that isn’t enough baby news, Kylee Jenner is also expecting a child. Grandma Kris is going to have a house full of grandchildren by the time the next holiday season rolls around.

To make the spoof a bit more interesting, ‘Karla’ wanted to share a secret with the audience. She announced that Kourtney was pregnant too. However, what guests in the audience didn’t know was that Kourtney was there to set the record straight. She is not pregnant. The 38-year old star got into a tiff with her ‘sister’ on the show.

It was then that Karla realized that she got the sisters name wrong. It was Kendall who was pregnant and not Kourtney. She went on to apologize for her error, but before she could finish her sentence, Kendall appeared to expose Karla for lying. It seems that Karla has memory problems and all these expectant sisters have confused the poor dear.

Neither Kendall or Kourtney are pregnant. The spoof was just to get a good laugh and a way to bring two of the most famous sisters ever onto the television show. Good one Ellen! She always knows how to make people laugh.

Simon Cowell Passes Out In London Home Due To Low Blood Pressure

Posted on by

Simon Cowell seems like a strong man on the outside, but even stars have issues with insomnia and other health battles. When the 58-year-old singer couldn’t sleep, he went downstairs for a glass of warm milk. After drinking the milk, Cowell headed back upstairs. The last thing he remembers is feeling dizzy.

The infamous reality television judge fainted and fell down the stairs in his London home. He was rushed to the hospital where he was checked and released. The next thing he remembered was them putting a neck brace on him and taking him to the hospital. Panic set in when he thought for a split second that he had done some real damage to himself.

The diagnosis was low blood pressure. He was sore and out of commission, and he couldn’t be there to film the first five episodes of X Factor UK in England. The whole incident has shaken the star. Often, celebrities get the notion that they are invincible. However, this entire ordeal has shown Cowell that money and fame cannot save you from time and chance. Having good health is essential to bouncing back even after the smallest of infractions.

He returned home from the hospital to a swarm of paparazzi. Cowell just smiled and gave them the thumbs up letting them know he is okay. The father of one has undoubtedly changed since son Eric was born. Even his judging style seems to have mellowed. He no longer is as sharp-tongued and harsh with his constructive criticisms. Life certainly has new meaning to a man who looks like he just started living. He is kinder to children, is seen wiping tears on America’s Got Talent, and ultimately has turned into an old softie.

With all the shows that he produces and plays an active role in, it’s good to know that Cowell is going to be okay. Thankfully, he didn’t suffer any real injuries, though he may have some sore muscles for a few days more.

‘Star Wars 7’ News – Mark Hamill Refused to Return without Harrison Ford

Posted on by

In a galaxy not so far away, a certain actor named Mark Hamill was actively contemplating passing up on his momentous return to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. It was recently revealed that Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, was hesitant about returning to the world that George Lucas had created. In fact, it took the return of Harrison Ford for Hamill to actively make the consideration. It was the 2015 film, ‘The Force Awakens’, that saw the original trio of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford return to the cinematic universe and Hamill expounded greatly on his decision during an interview with the New York Times.

Hamill says in the interview that he had seriously considered passing up on returning to the role of Luke Skywalker in JJ Abrams’ continuation of the series. There were a variety of reasons that Hamill was reluctant to pick up his lightsaber and cloak again and chief among them was the fact that he wanted fans to have their lasting impression of a young Luke Skywalker be untarnished. Hamill went on to explain that, at the time, he doubted that even Ford would return saying that Harrison had become “too old and too rich and too cranky.” Hamill was quickly proven wrong when Ford announced his return to the series and that was the instigator in his decision to come back. Hamill said, “Can you imagine if I was the only one to say no?”

Mark Hamill doesn’t need ‘Star Wars’ to continue his credible career because he has already carved himself out as one of the most gifted voice actors of all time. However, Hamill couldn’t resist the idea of returning once it was set in stone that the rest of the ‘original crew’ were joining the franchise. Now, Hamill looks to have a starring world in ‘Episode 8 – The Last Jedi’.

Wendy Williams Faints In Halloween Costume On Hit Show

Posted on by

On Halloween, everyone in Hollywood seems to get in on the festivities. However, what nobody ever talks about is how hot those costumes are to wear. Today, one talk show host found out just how steamy these costumes are. Wendy Williams was dressed as the Statue of Liberty on her hit show.

The 53-year-old was wearing a Caesar Galindo costume, which was complete with a long sequin dress, matching gloves, a green wig, and a sparkling crown. The weight of the outfit, and the heat from the lights on the set is said to be what triggered her fainting spell.

It all happened during an interview with Jerry O’Connell. The celebrity made it through 48 minutes of the broadcast without issue. She was supposed to appear from behind a plastic podium to kick off the contest for Halloween costumes. O’Connell noticed that Williams wasn’t doing her part. She was sitting behind the podium and wobbling back and forth.

The actress was swaying back and forth while stumbling her words. It was apparent to everyone that she was disoriented, and something was going on. The camera crew quickly cut the broadcast and went to a commercial break. By the time they stopped filming, Williams had passed out on the floor.

Thankfully, she quickly recovered. After a six-minute commercial break, she was back on the air. She told everyone that she was suffering from extreme heat from the gear she was wearing. However, she stated that she was a champ and that the show will go on. Crew members noted that Williams was complaining before the show began that Halloween was not her holiday. She didn’t like being dressed up or celebrating anyway. Seems like she should have gone with her gut instincts rather than what everyone thought the public wanted to see.

“Black Adam” Hires Adam Sztykiel as Screenwriter

Posted on by

It seems like the DCEU’s Black Adam movie is still going forward, with Adam Sztykiel hired as a new screenwriter.

The film was announced at the beginning of this year, with the intention that it would be a prequel before the titular character appeared as the antagonist of the Shazam movie. When that film moved forward in production starting in the summer, however, it was announced that Black Adam would no longer be the villain, leaving the status of the character’s solo film up in the air.

Sztykiel is something of an odd choice for a darker superhero film; he created the NBC sitcom Undateable and wrote for films like Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. However, he also has an adult credit with 2010’s road trip story Due Date.

Shazam, set for release in 2019, is about a young boy named Billy Batson. Due to his purity of heart, a powerful wizard chooses Billy as his champion, with the power to become an adult superhero by shouting the wizard’s name, “Shazam!” As a hero he is traditionally called Captain Marvel, but sometimes is also “Shazam” due to copyright issues with Marvel Comics.

In the comics, Black Adam (real name Teth-Adam/Theo Adam) was the wizard’s first champion, chosen back during the days of ancient Egypt. He turned evil, however, and was banished by the wizard, only to finally reappear in the modern age. He eventually evolved into more of an anti-hero, which is his planned characterization for the films as well.

Actor Dwayne Johnson has been set to play Black Adam for several years now, and has described himself as a huge fan of the character.

“Batman: the Brave and the Bold” Teams Up With Mystery Inc.

Posted on by

DC Comics and Warner Bros. have announced an upcoming crossover film called Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

It will be part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line and will be released directly onto DVD.

The Scooby-Doo franchise hardly needs introduction: since it started in 1969, it has featured four young adults named Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy who solve mysteries with their inexplicably talking dog, Scooby. With rare exceptions, the mysteries involve monsters who turn out to be normal people running a scam.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold, meanwhile, was a TV series that ran from 2008 until 2011. It was a deliberate throwback/homage/affectionate parody of Silver Age superheroics, featuring a stoic but less dour version of the Caped Crusader as he teamed up with other superheroes in lighthearted and silly adventures; often, the guest stars and bad guys were lesser known characters.

The new trailer, available here, reveals that Batman has known about Mystery Inc. for a while and needs their help to battle foes like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Scarecrow, and Poison Ivy (which is interesting, because Batman villains were pretty rare in the show). The other heroes depicted in the film include Martian Manhunter, Black Canary, Plastic Man and the show’s breakout character, Aquaman (“OUTRAGEOUS!”)

Interestingly enough, Scooby and the gang appeared in an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold called “Bat-Mite Presents: Batman’s Strangest Cases!” The segment was a nod to 1979’s The New Scooby-Doo Movies, which also featured the superhero (and Robin) teaming up with Mystery Inc. The episode also guest-starred “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold is set to come out January 8, 2018.
