The Chainsmokers: Closer to the Sound

Posted on by

In a recent interview with “Interview Magazine”, the two members of the Chainsmokers, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, discuss the release of their new single “Closer.” They say that this song will be different, as it not only features the singer Halsey, but it also features vocals by Taggart. Pall expresses that this is only a culmination of their goal to make their music more intimate and different. He says that artists are always trying to put intimacy in their music, and with EDM it can be hard, as usually there is no face or personality to the artists that make it.

Drew and Alex met in New York. Taggart was from Maine, but was studying at Syracuse. Pall was working in New York. Both had gotten into the DJing scene, due to its growing popularity. They were introduced by mutual friends, and starting connecting on music the next day. From early on, they discussed the need to change the genre; to make it more personal. They felt that EDM was huge, but DJs were all similar. Their first songs, such as “#SELFIE” brought them success, in which Pall reflects on them beginning to tour the world. However, he says they weren’t satisfied, as they still hadn’t blurred lines between genres.

After more success with “ROZES” and “Don’t Let Me Down,” they began experimenting with different ideas, this is when “Closer” was made. Pall says that the two wanted to get closer with their friends and express what their lives were like. The lyrics were to show their lives in college, talking about college girls, superficiality, and the whirlwind of emotions our generation feels while in college. This talk of their lives, the struggles, and of emotions, they hoped would make them be able to connect more with their fans. They also felt that by having Taggart sing on the track, they could be more intimately involved in the making of the song. Time will tell how “Closer” will do, but it seems that by putting their own vocals and lyrics into music, the Chainsmokers may be onto something..

DuVernay Hypes “New Gods” on Instagram

Posted on by

Ava DuVernay has taken to Instagram to hype (and hint?) at her upcoming New Gods movie.

In the Stories section of her account, DuVernay posted a page of New Gods #1, the February 1971 comic book that introduced the characters to the DC Universe. It begins with the word “Epilogue” and describes how the “old gods” died “in a fiery holocaust.” This resulted in the emergence of the New Gods, a race of semi-immortal aliens who reside on the peaceful planet of New Genesis and the dystopian world of Apokolips.

Since their introduction, the New Gods have become an important part of DC Comics—most notably Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips, a villain for the whole DC Universe. Other important characters include Mister Miracle, the universe’s greatest escape artist; his wife Big Barda, formerly one of Darkseid’s most powerful enforcers; Orion, Darkseid’s son, who constantly battles against his villainous heritage; and the Forever People, a sort of hippie superhero group from New Genesis.

It is unclear if any of these characters will show up in DuVernay’s film. Indeed, little is known about the project, including even if it will be a part of Warner Bros.’ ongoing DC Extended Universe.

New Gods have already appeared in the DCEU—notably Steppenwolf, the villain of Justice League. However, the movie was considered underwhelming, and Steppenwolf himself both narmy and generic. Will Warner Bros. use DuVernay’s film to redeem the New Gods for the DCEU?

Naturally, most stories about the New Gods involve Earth in some way—Mister Miracle and Big Barda even moved here—but they could also be a sort of Game of Thrones science fantasy. It will be interested to see what direction DuVernay decides to go in.

Radicalism Addressed By JNS Author Adam Milstein

Posted on by

There are many areas the philanthropist Adam Milstein of Hager Pacific Partners has taken an interest in and hopes to bring to the attention of the world through his work as a blogger and writer for the “Jewish News Syndicate”. A former member of the Israeli Defence Force during the Yom Kippur War, Adam Milstein has been an active member of the Jewish community across the globe for decades and uses his voice to raise awareness of the problems he sees facing the community and the world as a whole through the JNS publication.

Milstein has recently been concerned with the rise in radicalism from both the left and right of politics as the Jewish community has often been linked to both sides of the radical world by those with opposing voices. As he has seen the rise in anti-semitism of recent years, Adam Milstein believes he must speak out against the constant issues he believes are damaging the political landscape of the U.S.

In his recent JNS article, Adam Milstein discussed the options open to the people of the world to battle a rising level of rhetoric being targeted towards the Jewish community from all sides. One of the areas which have caused a great deal of concern for Milstein is the growing links between liberals in the U.S. and member of the radical Muslim community who have referred to members of the Jewish community as “white supremacists”. The USC graduate believes the links between the radical left and liberal groups is damaging for all as recent protests in American colleges and universities have expressed a desire to blame the Jewish community and Israel for issues across the Middle East.

Anti-semitism is now a new problem for the people of the world but one which has caused violence and damaging rhetoric to become the norm across much of the world for centuries. However, Adam Milstein sees members of the so-called “alt-right” stirring anti-semitic feeling using age-old tactics designed to damage the reputation of the Jewish community across the globe.

Dr. Mark McKenna – 2018’s Newest Medical Maverick

Posted on by

You could call Dr. Mark McKenna a jack of all trades in the entrepreneur world. In 1999 after graduating from college, Dr. Mark McKenna had decided making money would be tough in the medicine world, and so instead built a real estate business in New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, Dr. Mark McKenna lost millions of dollars overnight. Throw in some other business ventures along the way like his company, ShapeMed– a chain of offices specializing in botox, laser hair removal, and health and weight loss counseling– and working at the big box gym chain Lifetime Fitness and now we end up here in 2018 witnessing his newest business venture: OVME.

OVME– pronounced “of me”– is Dr. Mark McKenna’s newest business based in Atlanta, Georgia that will specialize in providing patients with the newest “medical aesthetic experience.” OVME promises to perform and provide minimally invasive procedures designed to enhance the aesthetic looks and emotional feel of patients in Atlanta in around the world to, in hopes, help improve patients’ outlooks on life and build their self-confidence.

Dr. McKenna knew in medical school he wanted to engage different parts of his brain, rather than just focus on medicine and science all the time. When asked about his successful real estate business– a business he built by providing physicals on prisoners for $50 an hour to invest– he stated his real estate business was worth at least $4 million at the time Hurricane Katrina washed everything out.

Now, Dr. Mark McKenna’s newest business venture, OVME, is the newest and greatest creation of the medical maverick. OVME will feature four private, luxury treatment rooms, along with a secluded office for individual consultations. OVME is the product of Dr. McKenna’s belief “that the needs of the medical aesthetic consumer have evolved beyond the stale industry landscape,” the doctor stated at OVME’s grand opening.

Previous and current patients of Dr. Mark McKenna have stated when they step into the OVME building they know they will be in good hands.

Compassion is Key at Aloha Construction

Posted on by

Hiring a contractor can conjure up feelings of uncertainty in most homeowners. Will they complete the job? Will they guarantee their work? Will they track dirt into the living room? Finding a reputable contractor can sometimes feel more like gambling with the outcome left up to the fates. Fortunately, Aloha Construction is raising the bar for this industry. Located in Lake Zurich, Illinois, Aloha is family-owned and has been in business for over ten years. David Farbaky, President and CEO, sums up his philosophy as, “being focused on what we do best; providing outstanding products and unsurpassed customer service.” Practicing this principal, Aloha Construction has grown from a small family business into a leading contracting firm that services all of Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

In 2017, Aloha won the prestigious BBB Torch Award for Ethics. Once a business is nominated, an individual panel reviews the company to see how they measure up to the Better Business Bureau’s 6 Principles of Trust! The business nominated must meet high standards of ethics with their employees, their customers, as well as their commitment to the community. Aloha Construction beat out its competitors based on their charitable contribution of creating social opportunities for the children of their community. The Torch Award Program highlighted a partnership between Aloha Construction and Omni Youth. Together, they provided an all-expense paid Christmas shopping spree for children in need. In addition, they sent a child with Congenital Heart Disease along with twelve of his friends to their first Bulls Game. And just this year, Aloha has donated 100 tickets to the Boys & Girls Club Bloomington-Normal for the Central Illinois Flying Aces Fan Appreciation Night, along with donating $1965 to the Camp One Step by Children’s Oncology Services.

It is clear what drives Aloha is compassion and dedication to their community. Anyone using their services can feel confident they are dealing with a reputable and ethical contractor they can trust. If you would like more information about Aloha Construction or their services, you can call the main office at Lake Zurich: 844.540.7711 or email them at: aloha@alohaconstruction.net.

Bruce Campbell Reveals Ash May Never Return

Posted on by

Horror fans must come to terms with somber news. The beloved character of Ash from the Evil Dead franchise may be no more if Starz’s Ash vs. The Evil Dead isn’t renewed for a fourth season. Bruce Campbell, the star who made Ash so memorable, recently spoke at a public event and suggested he won’t be returning to the role if the series ends up canceled. At one point, Campbell noted he could return in a feature film role but this seems to be off the table.

Campbell debuted the character of Ash in the 1981 film The Evil Dead. The film was a dark, frightening, and violent horror movie. The sequel to the sleeper hit, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, surprising moved the series into horror-comedy territory. The third film, Army of Darkness, was pure comedy. The two sequels, however, were far from box office hits. A recent Evil Dead remake returned the series to violent horror and was a massive box office success. Curiously, plans for a sequel were scrapped and the comedic horror/gore series Ash vs. the Evil Dead went into production for Starz.

Critics and fans found the outrageous television series to be a hilarious parody of the current zombie apocalypse/living dead movie and TV series fad. The satirical show allowed Campbell to flesh out the silly character of Ash along with an equally appealing supporting cast.

Unfortunately, Starz isn’t the most popular of pay channels and Ash vs. the Evil Dead probably hasn’t boosted subscriber rolls enough for the cable channel to renew the series. Worst yet, the rating for the third season declined to disastrous levels. Starz probably doesn’t feel much enthusiasm for renewing a series fewer people show interest in watching. Hopefully, the series comes back for a fourth season but things don’t look good at this point.

Marvel Changes the Summer Blockbuster Season

Posted on by

There was a time when the summer blockbuster consisted of June, July, and August. This all seems to be changing thanks largely to Marvel. Marvel has been releasing big films. At the same time, these films have been grossing tons of money. Disney has also been releasing high grossing films which has contributed to the change in perspective when it comes to the summer blockbuster. This is not to say that big movies are no longer getting released during the actual summer season. All that is happening is that the movies that are coming out are generating a lot of profits.

While the summer movie season has grown to be more than just the 3 months of summer, the change has not been very sudden. As far back as the mid 90s was when the summer movie season started expanding. 1997 kicked off the summer movie season with The Fifth Element and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The first 3 Mission Impossible films were released in May with the first of the movies being released in 1996. However, it has gotten to the point where action movies are being released almost every week of the year.

Another interesting thing to look at when it comes to the summer movie season is that it is not going to have the usual big epics this year. While it is going to have a lot of action movies this year, the big epics are out of the way of the summer. Alita: Battle Angel, a movie produced by James Cameron has been pushed back to December. Either way, this is going to be the biggest year yet for Marvel only to be outdone by next year with the finale Avengers 4.

More Marvel and The Matrix Reboot

Posted on by

Zak Penn, who has worked on The Avengers, is working on another Marvel movie. The MCU has grown a lot over its first 10 years. However, this is only the beginning. Given that Disney has bought Fox and the Marvel properties being held by Fox, this could mean that it is going to get a lot bigger after Avengers 3 and 4. This could mean that at some point the X-Men and the Fantastic Four might join the universe. There are also some big villains that can appear after Thanos is taken care of. There might be Galactus as the next big baddie.

To go along with the next Marvel movie, there is talks of a possible reboot of The Matrix franchise. While the original 1999 film has impressed audiences at the time of release, there is probably no need for a reboot. By the time it has gone to the third film, the popularity of the franchise has died down by a lot. One of the issues with the trilogy is the direction that they went with the story after the first one.

While The Matrix has had its time to shine, there is still room for Marvel with tons of characters they can explore. Disney and Marvel has revealed their plans for Marvel characters over the next few decades. Therefore, they have a lot of stories that they can tell. There are also plenty of potential ideas for crossovers. Given that characters that have some kind of history with Marvel, but are not necessarily Marvel characters can join. For instance, it would be very interesting to see where the Transformers would fit. Imagine Galactus and Unicron.

Stream Energy Shows Their Charitable Side

Posted on by

Stream Energy is a national-level provider of electricity, wifi, phone service, and home security services. Founded in 2005 by Rob Snyder and Pierre Koshakji, the company began offering its services first in Texas. In 2008 they expanded business to Georgia, and then in five northeast states after that. Their meteoric rise seems poised to continue, but that is not the subject of this article. I want to focus on their philanthropic activities.

Stream Energy recently launched a philanthropy organization called Stream Cares, which has been engaged in a lot of charitable work, especially in their home state of Texas. Most of their recent efforts have been focused on assisting the victims of hurricane Harvey. While the company has been involved in charitable and philanthropic activities for about 12 years, they have now chosen to formalize this with the founding of this organization. The organization has good relations with both the Red Cross and Habitat For Humanity.

Stream Energy, through Stream Cares, donated 25,000 dollars to the Red Cross in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. It is worth noting that they were one of the first companies to do so. They have also been accepting donations of all sorts for the victims of hurricane Harvey, so that anyone can help out through them.

One of the primary things that Stream Energy has tried to do with Stream Cares has been to combat the homelessness problem, which is particularly bad in the Dallas area. They have partnered with another group called Hope Supply Company to provide resources and assistants to the homeless in their area. This organization, funded by Stream Energy, delivers diapers, clothing, school supplies, medical care and a whole lot more for homeless children. They even organized a trip to a local water park for over 1000 homeless children. The fact that they could easily find 1000 homeless children shows you just how bad the problem is getting.

This isn’t the first time Stream has stepped in after a natural disaster to help. On the day after Christmas in 2016, a series of tornadoes touched down in North Texas. Stream quickly partnered with The Salvation Army to provide relief. They raised thousands of dollars in donations, which the company then matched.

It’s never a bad idea to give credit where credit is due, and clearly this business has gone above and beyond what anyone could reasonably expect.
