Rob Cohen’s Desire to Direct the Last Fast & Furious Movie

Posted on by

The Fast & Furious franchise has been going strong for almost 10 years. However, the franchise wasn’t always the popular franchise it has eventually become. As a matter of fact, at best it was hit and miss. The first movie, The Fast and the Furious, has gained enough of a profit to warrant a second film 2 Fast 2 Furious. The second one wasn’t quite as well received as the first one. Also, fans were wondering about Vin Diesel’s character since he was not in the second film, likely because of Vin Diese’s commitments to other projects. The third film, Tokyo Drift has pretty much put the franchise on a four year hiatus.

The franchise has eventually gotten back on its feet slowly with the success of Fast & Furious and Fast Five. This has shown the potential of the franchise. This has also marked the return of Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel to their status of action stars. One of the interesting things about the franchise is that Vin Diesel has solidified himself with this franchise even though he was showing promise with Pitch Black. However, there is one player that is hoping to return to the franchise and probably solidify himself in his career.

The one player that wants to return is Rob Cohen. He has expressed interest in returning to the director’s chair for the last film in the Fast & Furious series. It would actually be quite neat for the director to book end the series seeing that he was the first director of this franchise. This would be a way of taking the franchise full circle as well. As of right now, Justin Lin is set to direct both Fast & Furious 9 and 10.

New Release from Logic Disses Pop Singer’s Sales While Continuing Newfound Mission

Posted on by

Logic released a new single on February 22 which is his first since the release of his breakthrough album “Everybody” in 2017. The album included the social awareness song “1-800-273-8255” which was an emotionally charged single that was to support suicide prevention. It included collaborations with DJ Kahlid and Alessia Cara.

The Grammy-nominated singer has now released “44 More” that has a different vibe which includes an 808 beat that is mixed with raps about being superior as an artist than Katy Perry and Harry Styles. The fast-paced lyrics include a rap where he says, “Talk all you want, we are not the same…Step in the spot, now they know the name…sold more albums my first week than Harry Styles and Katy Perry.”

As reported by Nielsen Music, the sales of “Everybody” amounted to 196,000 copies when it debuted whereas the sales from the self-titled Harry Styles’ album debuted with 193,000, and Katy Perry debuted with 162,000 for the album “Witness”. Logic’s release was also named as number one with Billboard 200 with 247,000 equivalent album units earned which was his first ever score on the chart.

Logic, born Robert Bryson Hall from Gaithersburg, Maryland, was nominated in 2018 for a Grammy Award for Song of The Year and Best Music Video. He performed the single “1-800-273-8255” at the Grammy’s with a stage full of suicide survivors as well as family members of those who committed suicide. The song was certified as triple platinum according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

In 2017, Logic joined collaborations with Metallica, Krist Novoselic (former bassist for Nirvana), and Halsey, to form a mental health awareness campaign called “I’m Listening”. He’s been parodied on South Park which he takes in stride as a humorous gesture but reinforces that his commitment to mental health is nothing to joke about.

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats Tearing at the Seams

Posted on by

Denver based Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats are soaring high with the release of the band’s second album on Friday. “Tearing at the Seams” epitomizes the soulful rhythm and blues sound with its collection of roadhouse retro tunes. For years, the American singer-songwriter was on his own trying to make it as a solo artist. Rateliff’s career took off when he moved away from his traditional folksy sound and began a collaboration with local Colorado artists to form the breakthrough music now known as Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats.

The surprise hit of the debut self-titled album featured catchy songs and a unique sound that launched the band into the booming indie music scene and they haven’t looked back since. With “Tearing the Seams”, the band begins to explore a more upbeat sound with tunes like “Shoe Boot”. “You Worry Me” solidifies its place as the album’s standout song using a unique guitar rhythm to lead into Rateliff’s vocals building into an unyielding anthem crescendo. Rateliff backs off the big sounds with the breezy piano sounds featured in the melodic “Say It Louder”.

Rateliff’s love and respect for artist Leonard Cohen are evident throughout the album as he is able to seamlessly interject lyrics reminiscent of Cohen’s artistic vibe. The band explores a bit of a country sound with the melancholy pedal steel guitar and horns prominently featured on “Hey Mama.” Those familiar with Rateliff’s upbringing will certainly see the parallels in this song about a mother and son relationship.

In addition to the husky soulfulness of Rateliff’s voice, The Night Sweats also feature Joseph Pope III on bass, Patrick Meese on drums, and Mark Shusterman on keyboards.

Iconic Album Cover Designer Gary Burden, 84, has died

Posted on by

Graphic designer Gary Burden, who designed classic rock album covers including Neil Young’s 1974 “On the Beach,” has died at age 84, Young announced on his Archive website March 10.

No cause of death was given.

Grammy Award-winner Burden, who Young also said was his longtime friend, also conceived and designed covers for the Doors’ “Morrison Hotel,” Joni Mitchell’s “Blue,” Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Deja Vu” and Rickie Lee Jones’ “The Devil You Know.”

Young said he and Burden were longtime collaborators, and several of his unreleased albums will have covers designed by the artist.

From his first covers in 1968–for the Mamas and Papas, Steppenwolf and Richard Harris–through more recent designs for My Morning Jacket and Monsters of Folk, Burden’s work is a who’s who of folk and rock albums through the decades that would be instantly recognizable to music fans.

Young writes about his work with Burden on the cover for “On the Beach” in his 2012 autobiography “Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream.”

The cover, which Burden has said was his favorite, sets a beach umbrella and chairs in a kitchy pose in the sand, with the tail fin of a yellow Cadillac buried nearby. A newspaper headline refers to President Nixon, a theme carried through in one of the album’s songs. Critics have cited Neville Shute’s 1958 novel “On the Beach” and Salvador Dali’s “Persistence of Memory” as influences.

Burden’s life journey took him from the Marine Corps to the San Francisco beatnik scene to architectural design studies at UC Berkeley. He designed a house for Mama Cass Elliott, who suggested he design album covers.

He also worked in stage design and directed music videos.

Sade Announces Relase of First Song in Nearly a Decade

Sade was one of the most well-known female vocalists throughout the 1980s. Many remember Sade’s string of well-known hits including Smooth Operator, Your Love is King and No Ordinary Love. Sade would go on to enjoy success throughout the 1990s and into most of the 2000s. After she released her 2010 album Soldier of Love, fans weren’t sure if they would ever hear any new songs by Sade in the future. Fortunately, many in the music community were shocked and delighted that Sade is planning to release a new song.

This song will be released on the soundtrack for the upcoming film A Wrinkle in Time. This film is gathering quite a bit of acclaim after the cast was recently revealed. A Wrinkle in Time will star major superstars including Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey. In addition, this film is notable as it is the first time an African-American female will direct a mainstream film with a budget of over $100 million.

That being said, film and television superstars aren’t only attached to this project as there are a large number of major musical acts signing on for the soundtrack to this movie. The Guardian reports that A Wrinkle in Time’s soundtrack will feature musicians including DJ Khaled, Sia, and Demi Lovato.

To summarize, music superstar Sade recently announced that will be releasing a new song. This is major news within the music community as this singer has not released any new content in over 8 years. Robert Plant Explains Reluctance for Led Zeppelin Reunion

Posted on by

Legendary British rock star Robert Plant is once again making headlines around the world. This time, the 69-year-old singer-songwriter is in the news for expressing his reluctance to reunite Led Zeppelin, his most famous act. In an interview with Esquire Magazine, Plant was firm in his view that Led Zeppelin remain in the past. Instead, Plant plans on releasing new songs with his current band, the Sensational Space Shifters. Plant notes to Esquire, “Led Zeppelin was an amazing, prolific fun factory for a period of time, but it was three amazing musicians and a singer living in the times. Those times. That’s not going to stop me doing what I’m doing now.”

Plant also revealed that he sees the death of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham as the natural end for the band, saying “Thirty-eight years ago John Bonham passed away, that’s all I know. That’s it.” While Plant’s comments are sure to disappoint Led Zeppelin fans, his reluctance towards reuniting the band has remained consistent since Bonham’s death in 1980. While Plant has reunited with surviving bandmates Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones on numerous occasions, notably at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert in 2007, he nonetheless sees his time with Led Zeppelin as something that should be relegated to the past. Rather than focusing on Led Zeppelin’s storied history, Plant intends to concentrate on new material and enjoying his golden years. Plant notes that as he and most of his bandmates are approaching their seventies, it’s time to slow down and enjoy their lives. Despite no new reunion, fans can still enjoy Led Zeppelin’s renowned catalog, including favorites such as “Stairway to Heaven,” “Kashmir,” and “Ramble On.”

Sade Makes Comeback on Soundtrack for Upcoming Film Co-Starring Oprah Winfrey

It’s been eight years since Sade seemingly disappeared from the limelight, and fans have been waiting for a comeback ever since. The singer-songwriter was asked to contribute to the soundtrack for the upcoming movie “A Wrinkle in Time” which includes co-stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling.

Sade’s last recorded album was “Soldier of Love” and was released worldwide in 2010. It was her sixth studio album and the first album that included new music in ten years. The album debuted at number 11 which made it the highest debut on the Urban Hot AC Chart in the same decade.

Sade was born in Ibadan, Nigeria and began as a background singer for the group named Pride. In 1983, she formed her own band and released the debut album “Your Love is King” in February 1984 which later rose to become a top 10 hit.

The chosen title for Sade’s new single is “Flower of the Universe” and will be part of a soundtrack that includes music by artists like DJ Khaled, Demi Lavato, Sia, and Beyonce’. The composition was completed by Ramin Djawadi who is best known for being the composer of the score for the hit HBO television series Game of Thrones.

A Wrinkle in Time was directed by Ava DuVernay, making her the first woman of color to ever be selected to direct an action film which had a production budget that exceeded $100 million. When she spoke on Twitter about the choice to have Sade on the soundtrack, DuVernay wrote: “I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind [and] giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song…And it’s a dream come true.”

The Disney film will be released in theaters nationwide on March 9, 2018.
