Many people who are familiar with movies based on video games know that they tend not to do so well for some reason. Even the best films based on video games such as Mortal Kombat have turned out to be mediocre at best. One of the most recent films based on video games, Rampage, is set to come out to theaters later on this year. The director of the film, Brad Peyton, hopes to break the video game movie curse. One question that people are going to have when it comes to Rampage is whether or not it is actually going to break the curse.
Judging by the trailer, it does not look like it is going to be much more than popcorn summer blockbuster fare. While it does have Dwayne Johnson, who has established himself as an action star, it does have a mixture of standard action fare and disaster movie images. Dwayne Johnson has appeared in both types of movies.
As far as the video game goes, the movie does take an interesting approach to the adaptation of the game. The original games itself had a rather simplistic objective where the player has controlled the monsters. However, the film has human protagonists. Therefore, the movie is shown from the perspective of the background characters who try to take down the gigantic animals as they tear up the city.
The movie does have some humorous differences from the game. One humorous difference is the flying wolf. This looks a bit like something expected from an Axe Cop show. While the video game curse can be broken, this does not look like the film to do the job.
