Many fans are aware of the troubled production which Solo went through. They were also aware of the director changes that have been made. One of the interesting aspects of this story was that the directors who started on the film were responsible for the success of The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street. Therefore, they were a logical choice to bring the character of Han Solo to life for his own solo outing. However, there were a lot of creative differences and other production troubles that occurred which has resulted in the firing of the directors and the replacement with Ron Howard.
Given that this was a last minute decision, Ron Howard had the task of reshooting almost the whole film. The result was a film that was very disappointing. This goes to show that when making films, it is important to make sure that everyone is on the same page. It is also important to avoid rushing the production. One thing that is very disappointing about this is that this is more common than one would like to admit. Other projects that have been messed up because of creative differences were Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, with the director change happening with Justice League.
Solo has been released in theaters to disappointing reception. There might be talk about an alternate version that has been mostly shot with the original directors. However, Solo was probably never going to be a big time Star Wars film like the other films before it including Rogue One. Solo: A Star Wars Story is now playing in theaters with Star Wars Episode IX getting ready for filming.
