In a galaxy not so far away, a certain actor named Mark Hamill was actively contemplating passing up on his momentous return to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. It was recently revealed that Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, was hesitant about returning to the world that George Lucas had created. In fact, it took the return of Harrison Ford for Hamill to actively make the consideration. It was the 2015 film, ‘The Force Awakens’, that saw the original trio of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford return to the cinematic universe and Hamill expounded greatly on his decision during an interview with the New York Times.

Hamill says in the interview that he had seriously considered passing up on returning to the role of Luke Skywalker in JJ Abrams’ continuation of the series. There were a variety of reasons that Hamill was reluctant to pick up his lightsaber and cloak again and chief among them was the fact that he wanted fans to have their lasting impression of a young Luke Skywalker be untarnished. Hamill went on to explain that, at the time, he doubted that even Ford would return saying that Harrison had become “too old and too rich and too cranky.” Hamill was quickly proven wrong when Ford announced his return to the series and that was the instigator in his decision to come back. Hamill said, “Can you imagine if I was the only one to say no?”

Mark Hamill doesn’t need ‘Star Wars’ to continue his credible career because he has already carved himself out as one of the most gifted voice actors of all time. However, Hamill couldn’t resist the idea of returning once it was set in stone that the rest of the ‘original crew’ were joining the franchise. Now, Hamill looks to have a starring world in ‘Episode 8 – The Last Jedi’.
