New York residents have a convenient new way to locate a lawyer. A Lawyer Referral and Information service has been established by The New York State Bar Association. The service is confidential and always available. The service is designed to provide a low-pressure way to receive help.
The service matches individuals with attorneys whose credentials have been reviewed. The new technology was developed with a partnership between The New York Bar association and Legal.io. The partnership allows more individuals to receive legal services from trusted attorneys at a reduced cost.
A person needing a lawyer simply goes to the appropriate website. A confidential questionnaire must be completed. The questionnaire is reviewed by the State Bar and the person is matched with an attorney. There is no charge for referrals and a thirty-minute consultation with an attorney is $35. There are exceptions to this price. The individual is not required to retain the attorney.
The referral service through the New York State Bar Association has been matching people with lawyers for 35 years. Over 10,000 phone calls made from the public were handled in 2016.
